Emergency/Fire Warden Course

This course is specifically intended for staff member(s) who have responsibilities in Fire Safety and Emergency Evacuation in their building/facility.  Senior decision makers can also benefit from attending this course and gain a better understanding of the organizational structure and the Building Emergency Organization’s role during a fire, a bomb threat, a suspicious package event or other emergencies.
The course will provide the essential foundation for Emergency/Fire Wardens, Monitors, and other Building Emergency Organization members to meet their increased responsibilities under the emergency evacuation plan.  This course meets the requirements of the Canada Occupational Safety and Health Regulations, part xvii and the National and local Fire Codes. These regulations include the requirement for every appointed Emergency/Fire Warden to be instructed and trained in:

  1. Their responsibilities under the emergency evacuation plan and the emergency procedures for the facility;
  2. The location, use, and operation of fire protection and emergency equipment and life safety systems in the building ; and,
  3. The safe evacuation of building occupants.

All participants, successfully completing the course, will receive a Certificate of Participation.

  • Legislation and regulations;
  • Building emergency organization and responsibilities;
  • Chemistry of fire;
  • Audit of building life safety resources;
  • Types of emergencies;
  • Use of fire fighting and life safety equipment;
  • Evacuation procedures for ambulatory and non-ambulatory occupants;
  • Fire safety and prevention;
